Brick + Board

Exelon

For their LEED Platinum office space, Exelon was intent on sourcing reclaimed wood that had a story, looked beautiful, and was local. How’s two miles away for local? We salvaged 30,000 lineal feet of yellow pine joists from Baltimore rowhouses that were used for two wall cladding treatments. For the trading floor, the building’s buzzing hub of activity, the joists were resawn into veneers and applied to prominent columns throughout the space. In a room brimming with technology, our wood balances the modern and the natural, lending warmth and richness to the space. The heart of the joists, with a grain that you can’t find in big box stores, was then featured in accent walls throughout the building’s 21 floors. We’re proud to have played a part in one of the region’s most notable new builds, and we’re thrilled that our wood didn’t have to travel far to achieve a second life.
